As part of Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s effort to bring efficiency and an improved customer experience to the branch offices, a major shift impacting commercial drivers launches on March 16, 2021 and it is critical that your organization is aware of this change.
- Commercial Learner’s Permits (CLP) issued after March 16, 2021will be valid for 1 year.
- Once the permit is expired, the individual must retake and pass all required exams to obtain a new CLP.
- CLP holders can request a duplicate CLP on e-Services instead of going into a Secretary of State branch office. Once the individual pays the $18 fee online, the CLP is available to be printed.
- Commercial drivers can update their certified driving type and pay the standard license correction fee on e-Services. A new CDL will be mailed to the driver with the K-restriction either added or removed.
