Hello everybody and welcome to the Mike Gwizdala Story, hang on it's going to be a wild ride, try not to fall asleep.
I have been married to my beautiful bride, Marie, for 31 years and we have two wonderful kids, Michael 35 lives in Chicago with his girlfriend Dina, and Mara 29 lives with her fiance' Charlie in St. Clair Shores. Mara & Charlie will be getting married this coming November. Marie and I just rescued our second dog in October of 2016. I like to call him a lot of things, but he goes by Nelson.
I am currently the Supervisor of Buildings, Grounds, and Student Transportation for the Bay Arenac ISD located in beautiful Bay City. The ISD has buildings and center based programs in both Bay and Arenac counties and we also provide transportations services to our center based programs in both counties covering 1,300 + miles while serving 7 local school districts.
I am also honored to be your current MAPT Treasurer, serving for the last 4 years, current Region 7 representative, and I have been on the MAPT board serving in different capacities for 10 years. Also a member of MSBO.
Before moving to the ISD I was the Transportation Director for the Bay City Public Schools for 10 years and spent 24 years total with district as a custodian, maintenance supervisor, sub-teacher, basketball and football coach.
I also spent 8 months as the Director of Property Services and Transportation for the Pinconning Area School District.
I am a 1978 graduated of Bay City All Saints High School where I was involved in athletics, choir, volunteering, along with many other typical high school activities
In 1980 I graduated from Nebraska Western Junior College in Scottsbluff, NE. where I received a full ride athletic scholarship for basketball and my A.A. degree in Psychology.
After leaving Nebraska Western, I attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT. where I was also on scholarship for basketball and received my B.A in History and graduated in 1983. Yes, your addition is right, I was on the 5 year plan.
At this point in my life I have many irons in the fire. I am currently on the Board of Directors for the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame, and work with the Bay City Fireworks Festival doing a live television auction to raise dollars for the best fireworks show in Michigan, helping to raise over $200,00 dollars in the last 20 years. I also have been very fortunate to do play by play and color commentary on the radio and television for high school athletics in Northeast Michigan and the Bay City area for the last 20+ years. Coaching is also in the blood, having coached at both the high school and college level for 15 years.
Some of my other hobbies and passions are playing golf, hanging out with family and friends, volunteering around the community, and anything to do with the University of Michigan. Go Blue. Sorry Mac.
